Marlene Sample has been in the publishing business for more than 30 years. She and her husband, George, own several newspapers and shoppers throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maine, New Hampshire and New York. State College magazine and Pennsylvania Business Central were acquired by the Sample Media group in 2007. These two publications, along with The Bargain Sheet, are housed in the Vallamont Building, 1001 University Drive. As a 1973 Penn State grad, she is loyal to all that is "Penn State Proud." David Wells was named publisher of State College magazine on Jan. 1, 2014. He is also the publisher of the Sample Media group’s Pennsylvania Business Central, Marcellus Business Central and The Bargain Sheet and the director of Centered magazine. David has been with the Sample Media group since 2009, initially focusing on the company’s business publications and launching the Marcellus Shale biweekly. Kate Delano joined State College magazine in October 2012, bringing more than two decades of editorial experience to the team. A resident of the State College area for nearly two decades, she is well versed in the people, places and happenings in Happy Valley. Kate has a bachelor's from the University of Missouri School of Journalism and a master's from Penn State and previously taught news writing at Penn State. She has three children — Kyle, Alex and Courtney—and enjoys kayaking, boot camp, wine and book club. Email Kate at email@example.com
Maggie Anderson joined State College magazine in November of 2013. She grew up in Boalsburg and graduated from State College Area High School. She has a bachelor’s degree in English from New York University as well as a master’s degree from Sarah Lawrence College. Maggie enjoys spending time outdoors in the woods and indoors in the kitchen. Chris Blaska is a lifelong resident of Central Pennsylvania. He graduated from Pennsylvania College of Technology with a degree in graphic design. He joined the Sample Media staff in 2001. Chris enjoys watching and playing sports and following Penn State athletics.
Matt Fern has been with Sample Media since 2002, joining State College magazine in December of 2007 during the transition to the magazine's current incarnation. His love of classic design and eye for contemporary trends mesh perfectly with the culture of State College magazine. Out of the office, Matt enjoys friends, playing music and golf.
Samantha Friday joined State College magazine team in 2010. She is a graduate of South Hills School of Business & Technology with a degree in graphic design. When not at work, she enjoys kayaking, archery and spending time with friends.
Sandy Lauri joined the staff of State College magazine in late 2004, bringing 14 years of print sales experience with her. Working with her clients to meet their marketing needs in creative ways while staying within their budgets has always been her focus. Corinna Anskis joined Sample Media in 2006. She enjoys working with her clients and creating effective advertising within their budgets.
